The Meaning of Life: The Reality of Life
by Justin Kander

The meaning of life is not as complicated as some make it
out to be. In fact, there is no meaning
to life, plain and simple. Life came
about naturally, and it will die out naturally.
Humans were not "put here" to do anything; we evolved into
what we are today. What I am referring
to now is the grand meaning of life, to which there is none. However, every single individual has some
kind of meaning. This meaning is not
predetermined or destined, but chosen by the individual. It can be either good or bad, and it affects
the rest of us in some way, minor or major.
That's it.
Many humans feel the need to be special, and/or have the
desire to live forever, and that is why God and the afterlife were created by
us. It gave us a way to be unique and
eternal. And if there is a God who
supposedly created us, then he must have created us for a reason, and that is
where the greater meaning of life stems from.
But if you erase God, then you see there is no meaning to life. My philosophy is to get through life enduring
as little pain as possible, and removing as much pain as possible from
others. Pain, whether it be mental or
physical, is the worst feeling in the world, and that is why we must work together
to make this world as painless as possible.
I do not need the prospect of a heaven to want to help others; I do it
because I feel that life should be a happy event. In my opinion, this should be everybody's philosophy,
because if it was, the world would be a much better place.
It may seem disappointing and depressing to give up the idea
of a meaning to life, but it is not as bad as you think. By living life day by day, and not worrying
about what happens after death, happiness and comfort will come naturally. Helping others and the environment will give
you your meaning and a way to be remembered by.
You can still trouble yourself wondering about the greater meaning, it
is fun to think about sometimes, but in reality it is a waste of time, as the
chances of God or the greater meaning existing are incredibly low.

i agree to the talks of the writter . the word life has a very small meaning . the life is the precious gift given by god yo us . everyone have different meaning toward life some thinks dat life is just like a hell but on other hand some thinks dat life is a good think . every indivisual get one single life so everyone should enjoy every moment of it without thinking wat will happen in future . we must have a postive piont of view toward life . we should also experience everything in life .....
Justin - While your intent is sincere & insightful to an extent, you are not completely accurate in your comments about the larger meaning of Life..You seem to be postulating without taking science(study of truth) into consideration..Would you be walking for days, leave alone for billions of years, without a sense of purpose? Yet you state the energy manifesting life forms is purposeless? Its just that humans write off things that they cannot comprehend or those that dont serve their self invested interests & its ditto in your case..Well, If you are looking at the bigger picture then the pupose of life is to keep evolving intelligence to an ideal state, where we can manipulate the physical laws & cause a paradigm shift to a new state of laws..in layman's words - do you see the evolution of man from a "dumb ape - to stone age - civilization - Technology - ??"...If you follow the trend then you will be able to see whats coming next...& this telescoping, upward intelligence eruption which will eventually lead mankind to attain immortality & control the cosmos is whats the purpose of life..But of course for us self oriented souls this meaning alone will serve no individual purpose..therefore we go about living a micropsic life with millions of reasons to leave for each day...there is a purpose strewn everywhere & i agree with the rest of what you've got to say....Gul- well i agree some parts of this article because they are real in description. but i am a bit shocked on a point in the article "( By living life day by day, and not worrying about what happens after death, happiness and comfort will come naturally)"...em still thinking on this point that lets assume we go with the given statment, what ll happen? i think it always goes case to case...each religion has its own faith..may be jewish can say so or any other religions...but just think in ur own mind that is it really works? we are supposed to sent in the world for what? again on this point each religion has its own answers. i think life is what the life is..u cant make it according to your ideas. so each passing day is life and same is the meaning i think.
But one thing we all can agree that there ll be a day when we all have to die...and i think no meaning or reality is bigger than this statment..
what if there was no life nothing wrong nothing rite. the reality of life is based on fake criticizes. no one understand the reality of life because life itself cant understand its reality. the only and only reality of life is the end of our life and the end of this world. in this words of world two realities are that which are nun understood to any one. one is the reality of time & other is the reality of our life & what if some body understand these realities that is his the last day in this world because GOD is one man show......
If you think there is no purpose in life, you are DEAD WRONG. That would be the same as saying our cells have no purpose to our bodies. Four things for your uneducated mind: DMT, kymatica, the self conciousnous (may not be spelled correctly) of the universe, and fractles.
And if there is a God who supposedly created us, then he must have created us for a reason, and that is where the greater meaning of life stems from. But if you erase God, then you see there is no meaning to life. My philosophy is to get through life enduring as little pain as possible, and removing as much pain as possible from others. Pain, whether it be mental or physical, is the worst feeling in the world, and that is why we must work together to make this world as painless as possible. I do not need the prospect of a heaven to want to help others; I do it because I feel that life should be a happy event. In my opinion, this should be everybody's philosophy, because if it was, the world would be a much better place.
why bother doing good or relieving pain?? if it is all going to be meaningless when you die. why not just die now? i'm not questioning your beliefs but how can you get over this? why not just end it now instead of prolonging it?
God says if one live life without expectation and any other expectation they will never be upset.....but is it the way to live the life. what you want to say about luck.
There is a meaning to life, it's to be happy and to be lived fully.
If you are miserable, you are waisting your life and if you live for others and not you, you are waisting it too.
Nice read, but I don't agree, I feel that you are angry at something, maybe at life itself. This was written a long time ago, and perhaps I have changed my thinking somewhat. The purpose for all humans is indeed to live as happy and full a life as possible, because you only live once and to squander that life is tragedy at its greatest.
islam teaches that life has purposes...this life is a test... God is testing whether we believe him unseen....he created us,gave us everything that sustains our living on earth...God solely wants us to worsip him by following his prophet mohamed peace be upon him..n..his book (the QURAN) ,islam teaches helping others, making the world safe, better place,justice,love,compassion,respect,..infact doing the aforementioned acts for the sake of God/allah is worship. Life after death exist, those who believed n. Did good in the world would be given a peacefull everlasting enjoyment life..n..those who did the opposite are punished in everlasting hellfire, whose heat is 69 times hotter than our ordinery fire.there is nuthing so-called "evolution". If u wants facts get an english translated quran n study with open mind n heart..im not trying to offend anybody here. bear in mind that accepting islam is not compulsory ,the choise is urs..but i sincerely advise u to find fact before its too late,i mean death....u live once,This I strongly agree with. There is no way that an all-powerful God would care so much and have such a deep stake in us small creatures worshipping him. Also, helping others because you want to appease God and not your fellow humans is terrible. You should help others for the sake of them, not for the sake of God.
Also, any God that punishes people for eternity based on 30-100 years of human-based living is a purely evil being who has absolutely no understanding. How can a God expect humans to make the right decisions about something as grand as how the Universe began and what created everything? There is SO MUCH information out there, including atheism, agnosticism, buddhism, taoism, hinduism, christianity, judaism, etc. If someone chooses atheism based on logical things they observe in the world, and you die, and God says, "Sorry, you chose wrong, so now you have to suffer for ETERNITY for that minute period of confusing existence you just went through." It makes no sense and if it did then that God is pure evil, plain and simple.
I like your comments guys, and I like the article and the comment of the Islamic guy, too.I'm still young, but I took introduction to philosophy class. Philosophy tells us to question our beliefs..Plato says, erase all your old beliefs and start afresh. My father died long time ago in Africa, where I lived when I was 10 years old.My mum being a christian brought me through the same Christianity religion. I lived with my mum until sometime, but now I'm in the USA for my studies.I have passed through many stages and got some experiences about life. Although sometimes I feel like I have already known the world properly, there are sometimes I feel troubled;and it is because the people near me think differently than I think.Sometimes I feel like I'm in a different world and get @#$@#&*ed up with world, and I'm quite sure the author of this article is also @#$@#&*ed up with the world;and the Islamic guy is trying to defend his belief, which means he is also challenged with his belief of life--which is a normal thing to human beings. I agree with two of you.We could combine our thoughts and come up with one real meaning of life. For example, sometimes I thought that I need to question God if God would be around, and many things.
I came across your post over a year ago - and it has stuck in my mind - because it parallels my thoughts almost to a T. Your post is simple - straightforward - and says only what is necessary to make a point. Most people - as evidenced by the comments - are unable to accept such a simple explanation - as it is just not in the scheme of our human nature to do so. I would be interested to know if you have done any other writing along these lines - and referring to your comment - how have you “changed your thinking somewhat" - - -
